Poor Kamala, you just might become President of the United States.
How many folks having a father like yours would be unwilling to claim him proudly and early? We mean a father from a distinguished Jamaican family who fought his way into an outstanding West Coast United States University, viz, University of California, Berkley, gaining a Ph.D. in Economics and now continues his retirement as Professor Emeritus of Stanford University.
Here is a man who braved the arrows from South Indian males and the parents of a South Indian young woman, to persist and marry that South Indian immigrant student like himself, to produce two beautiful girls like Kamala and her sister Mya.. And later to face the hostile U.S. Courts in child custody and divorce proceedings at a time when the courts did not think that a father in prevailing circumstances warranted more than week-end visits.
Professor Harris still found it possible to introduce his daughters to his Jamaican cultural roots during Summer visits to beloved St. Ann’s parish, Brown’s Town in particular. This writer has seen pictures of Kamala and her sister Mya, reveling in the countryside around Brown's Town.
Kamala may have felt that it was more politic to downplay her association with her father and his roots and highlight her Indian mother because of the current ascendancy in the influence of Indian success in U.S. Academia, Business, Scientific and Professional activity, and if this is the case, we would remind her of her earlier decision to attend a historically Black University (Howard), (a correct move) which nurtured her, honed her skills, and launched her. And to remember her father who gave her boldness, a confidence that comes out of a majority culture (Jamaica), and an interest in Social Structures and Economic Development.
Dear Kamala, your waffling has made many American Blacks a little bit suspicious of you. Remember, we have concerns about the behavior of some Indian immigrants. Also about the fact that Caucasian America may be more willing to accept them than they are to accept us. You are walking through minefields of American racism, walk carefully.
The Caucasian is losing his majority status, The Black American is losing his minority preeminence, the Latino is becoming the dominant minority and the Asian is the disciplined brain. America is begging for the one who can put it all together and unite the blessed country.
One Love. Let’s get together and feel alright.!
